OTR High Security / Hazmat Transportation

Over-the-road high-security and hazmat transport for ammunition, explosives, and sensitive freight — placard-to-placard accountability.

operating brief

Ramar's OTR operation runs over-the-road movements of dangerous goods and sensitive freight from Atlantic Coast origin points to inland destinations across the lower 48. Every long-haul originates inside the integrated chain — typically picked up via drayage at the port or transferred from transload — and runs under team-driver coverage where the freight class or security profile requires continuous attendance.

The 'high-security' part of the offering is operationally distinct from standard hazmat. Ramar maintains a roster of drivers carrying U.S. government security clearances who handle freight profiles requiring background-investigated transportation personnel. We do not publicly catalogue which clearance levels are held or which cargo profiles those drivers move; the program is referenced here so that contracting officers and freight forwarders with cleared-cargo movements know to make the call.

For Class 1 ammunition and explosives, Ramar runs DOD-approved routing and adheres to the security and attendance protocols of 49 CFR 397 Subpart D. Every load runs with real-time tracking, geofence alerts at restricted segments, and a single dedicated dispatcher from origin to destination.

We avoid double-brokering categorically. Every load Ramar bills for is moved by a Ramar driver in a Ramar tractor.

process

How a load runs

  1. 01 / 04

    Origin pickup

Load originates at a port (via drayage), at a transload facility, or at a manufacturer dock. Driver verifies placards, securement, and shipping papers before departure.

  2. 02 / 04

    Routed long-haul

Pre-cleared route through state hazmat networks. Class 1 routes follow § 397.101. Driver attendance maintained continuously for attended classes via team-driver coverage.

  3. 03 / 04

    In-transit oversight

Dispatcher monitors location, fuel, and any hazmat-flag events (restricted-zone proximity, weather, route diversions). Customer receives tracking access for the duration.

  4. 04 / 04

    Final delivery

Driver presents at consignee with original shipping papers and proof of continuous custody. Receiving dock signs off; load is closed in Ramar's chain of custody.

questions

OTR High Security — Frequently Asked

Does Ramar run team drivers for Class 1 freight?
Yes. Class 1 explosives and ammunition transports requiring continuous attendance per 49 CFR 397.5 run team-driver coverage. Single drivers are reserved for non-attended classes.
What's Ramar's coverage area?
Ramar primarily runs east-of-Mississippi long-haul lanes from the Atlantic Coast. We operate in all 48 contiguous states, with most volume in the Eastern Seaboard, Gulf Coast, and Midwest corridors.
Are loads ever double-brokered?
No. Every long-haul Ramar bills for runs under USDOT 1141064 with a Ramar driver in a Ramar tractor. We do not contract long-haul out to other carriers.
